Athens lies in front of the Saronic gulf, a superb sailing area. The islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses are only a few hours away. Just South of them the Peloponnese coast offers a variety of choises for swimming and mooring. Visit Nafplion and Astros in the Argolic Gulf and then sail lazily along to Leonidion, Kiparissi, Yeraka and Monemvassia with its spectacular Byzantine ruins.
Another option are the famous Cyclades, the synonym of Greek Summer for most holiday makers in the world. Sail to the East into Mykonos, Tinos, Syros, Paros, Naxos, Kythnos, Kea, Milos, Santorini; the list goes on and you could easily spend a week in each of them.
Our yachting base is Olympic Marine just 30 min away from Athens international airport and at equal distance to the Cyclades and the Saronic. Olympic Marine is the safest and best equipped marina in the area.
Sailing conditions: The Saronic Gulf is land locked to the north so the waters of the gulf are protected from the prevailing northernly breeze in summer. The itineraries in the protection of the Saronic are fairly easy with short passages and calm seas.
Alternatively, the Aegean Sea is a very interesting choice but in July and August they should be the choice of the experienced sailor.
